Colored tapes

20.01.2010
Not only the number of the visitors in the Fliednersaal, which was occupied up to the last place, also many questions after the short talks made clear: In K- Active Taping many have a big interest.

Before sis. Sibylle Seebach-Gutsche, station management neurosurgery, had reported about her personal experiences with the coloured adhesive stripes. "In autumn, 2004 I was a patient in an orthopaedic practise and got on my arthrotisches knee 'blue stripes' glued with the explanation, it is new and would help well." said Sister Sibylle. The result has been amazing: "I suddenly could walk again relatively painless and make my service, without the knee hurt me with every step." She had been so inspired, that she reported to everybody about this experience, whether he wanted to hear it or not. An intensive discussion with the method and attempts followed on „living objects“, namely colleagues. She found a comrade-in-arms in the physiotherapy department of DIAKO and got to know Eva Maria Allaut of the company "mar-med" which distributs Kinesio products. Eva Maria Allaut produced the contact with the umbrella organisation Kinesio-Taping Germany and the best KT-Instructors, which offer regulary courses in the DIAKO since then....

"Meanwhile we have educated about 100 external and internal participants in basic courses and extension courses and have trained them to KT-therapists" discribed sis. Sibylle the 'moving in' of the therapy method in the DIAKO. Among the course participants were orthopaedists, gynecologists, internists, general doctors and neurosurgeons as well as physiotherapists, nurses, carer and masseurs. By now in the DIAKO themselves 50 employees have done the apprenticeship as KT therapist. So the method can be offered to patient and staff as an alternative and accompanying treatment. "By KT we have reached that employees could go on working and didn't call in sick" explained sis. Sibylle. "These results make us proud. Indeed, we are still in the building phase and have to tape a lot, because only who practices a lot and collects experiences, succeeds."

Sr. Sibylle thanked the chairman and the hospital board of directors for the support, "which is granted to us for the construction of a KT training- and therapy centre". Also for many orthodox medical practitioner, Kinesio-Taping is an approved method, said Dr. Jan Peter Braun, medical manager of the DIAKO. Braun was glad about the „impulse which came from the care“ and the chance of the DIAKO, to be able to offer a complete therapy at top of the north, which is in the arrival.

Carolin Weidner, physiotherapist in the DIAKO, spoke during her talk in the Fliednersaal of 95 percent of the cases, where KT has proved as pain-relieving. She showed many photos from the practical use in the DIAKO which reached from long-term headaches through back and knee pains up to the treatment of scars. After the short talk of Carolin Weidner, she had do say goodbye fast: She looks after athlets at the handball world championships which partly swear also on Kinesio-Taping.

Volker Nieves, physiotherapist and Kinesio-Taping-Instructor, reacted to effect and history of the therapy which already began in the beginning of the 70s with Dr. Kenzo Kase. Nieves warned against transfiguring Kinesio as a typ of miracle therapy. Rather it is a good, other treatment complementary method, which supports the selfhealing forces of the body. KT leads to an improvement of the microcirculation and to the pain relief, activates the lymphatic system and supports the joint functions. Patients often reported about a pleasant warm feeling by application of the tapes. Numerous athlets, including Lance Armstrong, Jan Koller and Volker Zerbe already fell back on KT.

Björn Moritz Plötz, houseman Neurosurgery, reported about a clinical study which will begin soon in the DIAKO. Patients after intervertebral disc operations should be split in two big groups: One group does receive Kinesio-Taping in addition to the conventional heat applications and massages, other not. To different times the complaints should be grasped. One may be stretched on the result.

15.01.2010
You see them more and more often, the coloured plastered athlets – in the Olympic games, on triathlon competitions, in parks jogging or in the sauna regenerating.

What effect have Kinesiology Tapes? Is it more than a temporary fashion? The invention at least is not new, because the plasters were already developed nearly 30 years ago by Dr. Kenzo Kase and the Japanese enterprise of Nitto Denko.

13.01.2010
The Kinesiology Taping was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase from Japan in the 70s.

Kase had worked as a doctor of chiropractic for many years in the USA and he has observed that his treatments had often only a short-term success. The patients came again with the same symptoms after a few weeks.
